About us

Private Wings is an owner-managed airline with its headquarter in Berlin Schönefeld. The majority of the fleet and our own maintenance facility is based at Ingolstadt-Manching airport. In 1991 Private Wings started to operate as an air ambulance provider. Charter flights for event and sports customers as well as corporate shuttles for the Volkswagen Group have become increasingly relevant after the turn of the century. Today the company operates a fleet of 9 Dornier 328 Turboprops, 1 Dornier 328 Jet and one Beech 1900D.

Our History

Our company history is closely linked to the German division. After his training as a paramedic, Peter Gatz worked for Malteser Hilfsdienst. Shortly afterwards, he set up his own ambulance transport service. Since the transit route through the GDR was very difficult for critically ill patients, he began to charter planes accompanied by himself as a paramedic. At that time only allies were allowed to fly to West Berlin, so he chartered aircraft from Tempelhof Airways (USA) and Berlin Regional (UK).
Aviation laws were changed after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Germans could now fly without any restrictions. Thus, Private Wings was founded at the end of 1991 in its present form at Berlin Tempelhof Airport. Flights were mainly operated for air ambulance, charter and freight customers.

Our timeline

Private Wings expands management team

We are adding two authorized signatories to our management team as of February 15, 2023. This will strengthen both locations, the administrative office in Berlin-Schoenefeld and the location in Ingolstadt-Manching with focus on Part-145, CAMO and flight operations, with one authorized signatory each.

As Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), the new authorized signatory Lisa Marie Erb will be responsible for the further development of the business units. The 30-year-old marketing specialist joined the business airline in spring 2020 and previously worked as Marketing & Sales Director. "My focus will be on optimizing the customer experience and all internal processes that come with it. I am looking forward to opening up further areas for us with the entire Private Wings team," says Erb. "Already with the Corona Pandemic, Private Wings had been able to win more and more customers for individual charter flights, especially from the sports sector, in addition to the successful corporate shuttles." Lisa Marie Erb began her career in 2011 with a dual study program at Pro Sky in Cologne, followed by, among others, positions at Beechcraft Berlin Aviation.

Julia Wanninger will be responsible for the company's own Part-145 and CAMO as authorized signatory, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and Deputy Accountable Manager at the Ingolstadt-Manching site. The 29-year-old joined Private Wings in the fall of 2021 and will focus on expanding the business airline's own technical capabilities in her new position. Since starting her career as a dual student in aviation management at Fraport AG in 2012, she gained aviation as well as technical experience at several stations and most recently managed the Part-145 operations and CAMO at airplus Maintenance GmbH in Friedrichshafen.

"With Julia Wanninger and Lisa Marie Erb, we are expanding the management team with two talented and young high performers who have proven their competence and innovation. With these new additions to the management we are in a great position for a long-term development of our business model," explains managing director and owner Peter Gatz.
